Free UN Data

Worldwide Breast Cancer Map

The BCIT blog gave us a useful information related to world statistics data.

The United Nations have launched a new website called UN Data to share the data collected by a number of UN agencies. 55 million data records are waiting to be explored. You can already search the following topic areas:

  • education
  • employment
  • energy
  • environment
  • food and agriculture
  • health
  • human development
  • industry
  • information and communication technology
  • national accounts
  • population
  • refugees
  • trade and
  • tourism.

There is no fee and no registration required. The data can be filtered and you can download the data in various formats. The interface is straightforward and clear (with 55 million data records it would have to be!), which encourages exploration and research. UN Data is a far better implementation than the World Bank’s Data & Statistics site.) UN Data will be a useful resource for course developers, instructors, and for students of many disciplines.
